Cloves are the unopened flower buds of the clove tree. An evergreen native to Indonesia and India that grows from eight to twelve meters in height, the clove tree produces flower buds in clusters that are pale in color at first, become green, and then bright red, when they are ready for harvesting.

लौंग, लौंग के पेड़ की खुली हुई फूल की कलियाँ हैं। इंडोनेशिया और भारत का एक सदाबहार मूल निवासी, जो आठ से बारह मीटर की ऊंचाई तक बढ़ता है, लौंग का पेड़ गुच्छों में फूलों की कलियाँ पैदा करता है जो पहले हल्के रंग की होती हैं, हरे रंग की हो जाती हैं, और फिर कटाई के लिए तैयार होने पर चमकदार लाल हो जाती हैं।
