NARIYAL(COCONUT)

Botanically speaking, the coconut fruit is a drupe (a fleshy fruit with a hard stone containing the seed), and not a true nut. The name coconut comes from the old Portuguese and Spanish word ‘coco’ which means head or skull – the three grooves on the coconut shell are thought to resemble facial features.

वानस्पतिक रूप से कहें तो, नारियल का फल एक ड्रूप (एक मांसल फल जिसमें बीज युक्त कठोर पत्थर होता है) है, और असली अखरोट नहीं है। नारियल नाम पुराने पुर्तगाली और स्पैनिश शब्द ‘कोको’ से आया है जिसका अर्थ है सिर या खोपड़ी – ऐसा माना जाता है कि नारियल के खोल पर तीन खांचे चेहरे की विशेषताओं से मिलते जुलते हैं।
